An unprecedented collaboration between Acropolis Cinema and the Locarno Film Festival, the fifth annual Locarno in Los Angeles returns in 2022 to the new multidisciplinary arts venue 2220 Arts + Archives in MacArthur Park. Running from March 17-20, the fifth edition of Locarno in Los Angeles—following a break in 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic—will feature a dozen films from the most recent edition of Locarno, including a selection of many of the top prize winners. The festival opens with the winner of Locarno’s Golden Leopard, Edwin’s subversive homage to 1980s East Asian action movies, Vengeance Is Mine, All Others Pay Cash. This year’s showcase titles include the winner of the Pardo for Best Direction, Abel Ferrara’s surreal thriller Zeros and Ones, starring Ethan Hawke (Spotlight Selection); Chema García Ibarra’s remarkable deadpan comedy debut, The Sacred Spirit (Centerpiece Selection); and Mamoru Hosoda’s acclaimed anime adventure, Belle (Closing Night).
